In the flurry of intrepid petals

for a moment as if to seek
a private view of a public life

the audience tense

I am driving down a road that rolls towards me like so much black tape spinning off of its core.
The broken centre line, "white tongues", sometimes licking the edges of my driver side tires.
I am bearing down on the accelerator with great urgency while the
earth is spinning beneath me with great accuracy and confidence.
I am part of the conceit of progress.
This is not an easy endeavour.
